Nokomai Valley Lodge is a special rural retreat nestled in the home valley of Nokomai Station, a high country farming property approximately one hour south of Queenstown in the hills of Northern Southland. For over 150 years this family-run station has not only maintained itself as an active working farm but has prospered- allowing guests to immerse themselves in a bit of authentic station life. With no street lights, just vivid night skies, guests are afforded a step sideways from the daily rush to explore a winding country road leading to the hidden valley. Secluded but not remote, a stay at Nokomai is a unique experience. Anglers receive the opportunity to fish 20kms along the Mataura, which winds its way through the property, in addition to fishing other local rivers (the Mararoa, Whitestone, Nevis, Waikaia, Oreti and Aparima). Those who do not fish also gain an opportunity to experience a wide range of activities in a beautiful South Island setting. The notorious "Mad Mataura" mayfly hatch can send fish into a feeding frenzy.

The nearest and most important river to anglers at Nokomai is the Mataura, only two minutes away.
